math craft... mental calculation easy!

As important as reading is mental calculation. Students should do it fast and being sure of their answers.
I practice maths daily. I start with one trick and we work on it and practice it during a while until we go on to the next trick.
Once we've been learning some tricks we continue working on them because I don't want them to forget them!!!
So we prepare this flip book with some of the tricks:

It is easy to build:
First we have to cut the pages in two and fold every part along the dotted lines...

Then we have to build a flip book putting one  inside the other in order

To finish we staple the flip book on the top.

We work with this flip book on some worksheets and printables. We also have some posters with the tricks on our math wall.

You can see the flipbook and the posters on my tpt account. The worksheets will come soon...

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy visiting my blog.

Loving READING!

Teaching English as a Second Language in Second Grade is AWESOME!! I LOVE IT!!! I love how exciting this subject is and the enthusiastic my kids are. They love having English class and I take care of them planning everything carefully, in advance and with a purpose. I work as hard as my students do because they give me even more than what I give them.

One of the activities I prepare and I continue doing it periodically because I feel they love it and they learn a lot while they move is a WALKING READING!

I prepare flashcards about the topic we are practicing. Each flashcard contains an engaging picture and a paragraph with one, two or three short sentences.

Then I hang them around the classroom and I give them some questions they have to answer.
They can work alone, in pairs or in small groups and they try to find all the answers.

When they finish we talk about it and they can do different activities, each time a different one (comprehension sheet, four squares writing, small group poster, preparing an oral presentation about the same or a similar topic, lap book, flip book...)

I have done some of these products active on my tpt page (those about sharks, tigers and snakes) both in English and in Spanish and I continue working on other interesting topics and animals (I have to arrive at least to seven different animals because I have seven groups in my class and I want to do a final activity about them and I need one different animal for each group). I will post about it soon.

If you would like to take a look here you have the link to one of them in English and in Spanish.

Thank you for reading! Come back soon!

July 4th

The first year I was in USA on July 4th was amazing, first of all for the events and celebrations that took place in the city and secondly for how the family I was with lives this day.

The day before we went to buy some fireworks,

4th of July started with a parade

we played baseball with all the family,

We had lunch together in the backyard,

all the children had a blast playing there while waiting for the next thing to do,

We had time to do a hike in the afternoon,

Later there were great games prepared for all the kids,

Before having dinner we threw our own fireworks,

And after our dinner we went to dance and see the big fireworks,

It was great!! What a beautiful, unforgettable day!!

Celebrating this 4th of July I am going to share a free activity  for you to encourage your children to write and draw about your own great day (and to share and talk about it). You can download it here.
To continue hopping you can go to LECTURA PARA NIÑOS

Hope you are having a great holiday!! Enjoy the summer!!
